Collab­orative entities (gover­nment, private or public­/pr­ivate entities) who define the rules so electronic inform­ation flows smoothly. SDOs develop, coordi­nate, promul­gate, revise, amend, reissue, interpret, or otherwise maintain standards that address wide ranging interests.
HL7 ~ Health Level 7 Int’l organi­zation focused on clinical message standards; the standards are approved by ANSI, the American National Standards Institute. HL7 collab­orates with other standards groups such as ASTM Int’l (E31 Cmte) ~ (Int’l organi­zation formerly American Society for Testing and Materials)
HITSP - Healthcare Inform­ation Technology Standards Panel. Coordi­nates standards activities to achieve intero­perable health inform­ation.
