This is a draft cheat sheet. It is a work in progress and is not finished yet.

Coordination

It is the process through which 2 or more organs interact & complement the functions of another.

In our body, the neural system & the endocrine system jointly coordinate & integrate all the activities of the organs so that they function in a synchronised fashion.

Neural System

• the neural system of highly specialised animals are composed of cells known as neurons.
• neurons can detect, receive, & transmit different kinds of stimuli to & from the brain.
In organisms like Hydra, the neurons are very basic but in organisms like Humans, the neurons have a much complex structure.

Neuron

Human Neural System

• divided into 2 parts -
1. the central nervous system - consists of the brain & the spinal cord

2. the peripheral nervous sytem - comprises of all the nerves associated with the CNS

• the PNS is divided into the somatic neural system & the autonomic neural system
the SNS relays impulses from the CNS to the skeletal muscles while the ANS transmits impulses from the CNS to the smooth muscles
the visceral nervous system is the part of the PNS that comprises the whole complex of nerves, fibres, ganglia & plexuses by which impulses travel from the CNS to the viscera & vice versa
